Perspectives in anthropic geomorphology – from global to local
Aim of this lecture is to review anthropic geomorphology as a concept in geography and as a tool in landscape research. The first part of the lecture outlines the subject and system of anthropic geomorphology, as a sub-discipline of geomorphology. The second part intends to give a review of the most important forerunners from Marsh to Sherlock and some significant pioneer efforts after World War II including Nir's 'anthropogeomorphological model'. In the third part, summing up the most important research works of the last decades, approaches to quantification and qualification of effective and potential human geomorphologic impacts are to be critically reviewed; moreover, a case study attempting quantification of anthropic surface forming processes in the Tokaj Nagy Hill area (Hungary) will be presented. Finally, the emerging concept of 'Anthropocene' will be also discussed.
